Wish everyone would make the switch,I hate having to go thru both forumns and so many use both as posting sites!. Lets make a decision to all come here or all go back. I hate to just shut down one site and miss a lot of folks but I think I will close off on the old site and hope they all finally come here when know one responds to them!

As a recent newcomer,I've never seen the other site, but couldn't you just post a huge sign on the other site with some kind of deadline escorting everyone to the new site? During the time of deadline posting, accept no new chats and refer all new "business" to this site. After that period of time, everyone will know to come to the correct site. In addition, isn't there a way to "forward" the site to this one?

Just my thoughts on it all.

In my opinion, this site is not quite ready for everyone from ezboard BYC. There are some things still under construction, like integrating chat here that many folks there use all the time. This is still a new board and alot of things are still being worked on. I'm sure that when the time is right CC will complete the switch.

Give it time. However, please check out postings on the EZBYC site if you can't find answers here. Enjoy the redundancy (two live sites are better than one when bad things happen).

tnokie, I'm just as anxious as anyone to have everyone move over here, but it will never be a forced move on our (me or chickchair) part. The only "forced" move I foresee is when ezboard either looses data again and/or when they force members to upgrade to Yuku.

I'll say this much, the BackyardChickens.com forum will never close. Too many people come to the BYC main site for me to turn them away... and as the new owner of the site I can't, in good conscience, only point to ezboard as I honestly hate their platform, features, and service.

So, I don't mind that we are giving people a choice, but in time members will see that this is, and will continue to be a better alternative (especially as we add new tools and features).

Keep in mind, ezboard has been working on their system since 1999... this forum has only been up for 2 months! Give me 8 years to work on this site and imagine what I can do with it!!!

As far as the chat goes, have you heard of the program called Ventrilo? We use it over on Beemaster, there's a text chat but also a voice chat that's really cool! There are two versions, one is the server version and then the users download the user version. I know the user part is free, and the server part is free provided you stick to the licensing agreement (not sure what that is). Just thought I'd throw that out there, if it'll help with the chat problem in getting away from EZBoard.

Thanks Ann, I'll put that one on my list to consider. I'm trying to keep away from chat / IM systems that require the client (user) to download a program. These types of systems often work really well once they are setup and installed properly, but getting the diverse group on this board, with all the different computers and settings, to install applications would be tricky.

Maybe we could have it available for more savvy users? My brother and I just started using SightSpeed for our video and audio conferencing and we love it! http://www.sightspeed.com/

There are a lot of people on EZ Board that don't understand why we are all coming over here... they think if it's not broke, why fix it?? I think it will just take time. Eventually people will migrate over here. I hate the way EZ Board is set up. It's not good on the eyes and it's just funky to work with. Every other forum I've been on has had this format.
For now, I'm reading both forums but usually only post over here now unless there is something over there I want to respond to.

CarriBrown, I think you're spot on! When I first started on this path I heard from a lot of people how they don't like change... even if change is for the better, many people don't like it.

Yes, there are some features that are over at the other forum, but if I don't end up adding them here, you can be guaranteed there is a good reason!

Someone said it best, it is the community that makes the forum... the software and backend are just suppose to facilitate the group and make it as easy as possible for everyone to communicate and have a great time.

Bells, whistles, doo-dads, speed, efficiency, secutirty... to this I say moderation in all things!

Perhaps for our community (that is if you look at it from the viewpoint of the community> meaning the user) but also for yourself since you say yourself you are not a programmer and it has seemed to be so time consuming and such for the things like smileys etc. ...PunBB might not have been the right choice ... for instance, I am not a member but have visited a few times the forum "Homesteading Today" which is (I think) more active than BYC even!
They use VBulletin and boy is it fantastic (alot better than what EZ has to offer for sure) and I know many BYC memebers are members there too and I never heard of them complaining that it loaded slow...is it more difficult than PunBB ??? ....I know that BYC has a few members that are programmers and have offered to help you with this that and the other? Many members have several different groups they visit... pms and all the bells and whistles can also speed things up for a user too.
