I have been reading various threads about fermented grains and spent grain and had this question: is it possible to ferment spent grain? I may have a source of spent grain from a beer brewing acquaintance but would probably get more than I could use up before the grain spoils (I only have 4 chickens). I am considering breaking the grain into portions and freezing but I'm wondering if there would be any advantage to fermenting the grains, either by themselves or mixing in with fermenting feed (e.g. mash, grains or pellets)?
From what I've been able to determine, the mashing process removes much of the starches from the grains so I wonder if there would be anything for the LABs to ferment and would there be any other benefits from a nutritional standpoint? I'm also interested in fermenting the grains to prevent spoilage.
Thanks in advance
