A Remembrance Completed

So we come to the end of our weeklong remembrance of Lilly. I am so very thankful that we were led to rescue her from living under the porch. She was a real character and fixture at Fluffy Butt Acres for six and half years, our longest resident to date.

No celebration of Lilly would be complete without the story of how she once joined us for Thanksgiving dinner. You can find the story here. We remember her every thanksgiving and my hope is that one day my granddaughter Eve will be telling the story of Lilly to her grandchildren.

So bittersweet.
I knew we would get the Thanksgiving story again. And once again I laughed and laughed until I cried.
Thank you for this week’s celebration of her life.
🥰

There is no way to avoid the Thanksgiving story. It is one of the most memorable ever here.

She deserves to be remembered. They all do. Lilly is one of the great hens that will ever be a part of our lives.

Thanks. That's nice of you to say. She was a great hen.

That is how they are getting those Midnight Majesty Maran hens, they are crossing the Marans on Barred Rocks for a Sex-link chick, easier and faster to tell the gender at day old - not sure how dark their eggs are next to a pure Marans though.

@SimpleJenn - how dark are the eggs from your Midnight Majesty Marans ?
Here are some of her eggs, oldest to recent

Her recent eggs are very speckly and heavily bloomed
I also would have thought that, but what I have read states BR. But I bet they have bred them to be sex-linked with the dark eggs.
99% sure it's barred rock. I spoke with a marans breeder and she said midnight majesty is barred rock mother, bcm father and they are big sweeties from both breeds.
