First time chicken mama here... a long time dream finally coming true. These little ladies bring me such JOY. And I am putting my creative, DIY mind to work with building their coop and run!

The container shown is not their brooder, just a cute planter box for a portrait session.

I went digging for worms with my flock today. How fun! The rooster got mad though, he thought I stole his job. I sure pulled a lot of weeds in the process!

I chose to use this down time to actually start a small family of chicks. Building the coop, setting up the brooder, researching their care has become a family project we all have enjoyed over the past 2 weeks. While the chicks aren't even here yet, we have enjoyed this process as a family. We are all looking forward to adding six-2 legged hens to our growing family of animals. No crisis should go to waste I say.

I wish my brothers liked chickens as much as me. Maybe they'll be more excited when they actually come though... that sounds great that your whole family is into it : )
