Here's the thing. Even if we assume a US $ crash is not about to happen, what happens if they do pass this law? How much in holdings do the Russians as a whole have in US$. Its a big country with little trust in its own money. Forcing them to dump the US$ they hold would create a sudden spike in supply an a sudden drop in demand. How many non Russians would dump holdings of US$ just cause of the fear of that spike. How many would if it actually happened?

The average Russian citizen doesn't have any dollars.
But if they did then they would change them for Euros, that would drive the value of the Euro up, that would make American exports to Europe cheaper, that would cause the U.S. to export more to Europe putting more Americans to work, that would make the dollar stronger.

The Russians have a lot less dollars since the government of Cyprus got their hands on those bank accounts. For some reason, Russians were keeping large accounts in Cyprus.

It is my fear that the dollar is doomed. Just when the whole thing falls down is anyone's guess. Right now, the IRS has cleaned me out, so now it is just entertainment watching people trying to save their savings and investments. I am afraid when it happens, that the people that provoked the end of the dollar will look around for someone to blame. Probably bankers, business owners and of course a certain religious faith. That is the way it went in the last great depression.

History repeats itself.

I see the government of Venezuela is arresting shop keepers and small business people now. They don't realize or care that a business must get enough off of a sale to pay the rent and re stock the shelves. I am afraid the same idiocy will prevail here in the US. He will get those "bad apple" insurance companies, oil companies and other "corporate gougers."

In Venezuela the government took over the paper industry, and now they can't understand why there are no baby diapers or toilet paper in the stores. Socialismo, el mundo nuevo. Bull pucky! The goal of liberals is not universal prosperity but universal poverty.

We are personally putting away a small cash reserve weekly, which we will convert to silver every few weeks. We're also going to "pay to buy" and get a SAMS club membership so we can buy canned goods by the box,or case,or whatever number is sold in volumes. We also plan to get as much debt paid off, including our home mortgage within the next 6 months,so we are basically debt free.Although on a Grand Scale the govt can take claim to any property for any reason they want. But when the banks once again collapse, they will not hold title to anything we have.
Of those of you that watch "Preppers" it is recommended to have 8 months of cash, and food supplies. And if you do store-stockpile supplies in this manner it's best to not tell everyone you know. Grocery stores shelves can easily be emptied within a few hours of panic buying.Getting off the grid is another option we're exploring, either thru solar or wind power. When my grandparents used to talk of the hardships, govt rationed items such as gas and tires, all because of the war effort,,I just kinda paid 1/2 attention to them. Now I wish in one way, they were here for some guidance.Granted, this is referring to WW2,but many things during the Great Depression simply was not available anymore,or affordable. Those that lived in rural areas fared much, much better.
Our govt. is mostly to blame, but then again,we as voters put them in office over the past decades.Writing spending bills, and budgets that in no way can be covered by the taxpaying body, year after year after year is finally come full circle.Allowing outside countries to buy property here,or move jobs out of here,to sell technology to countries that now pose a threat to us,,and basically allow bits and pieces of our nation to be taken away all for "International Trade"?
In a future where noone has money for anything, and modern society of today has no clue how to plant a garden, butcher a live animal,or even raise an animal, those of us that do know how to somewhat self sustain, will undoubtedly be sought out.City dwellers now will quickly realize when there is nothing left for them, the migration will begin to where they know land is plentiful, and they can homestead. The millions of acres now that's planted to corn and soybeans each year probably will be left unplanted and owned by the banks.I'm sure "squatters" will have a hayday once they move from all concrete surroundings they are used to.Maybe when that day comes as well, welfare will come to an end and those that have taken from the working class their entire life, will possibly learn to work for what they need,to actually put some sweat forthcoming, instead of holding their hands out for freebies. The "Corrections" we as hard working-law abiding taxpayers-citizens has known for years that needed to be changed, will finally happen.Allowing our Govt.to become so invasive, and having no accountability to us who put them in office has to change.A president who clearly states "There will be no negotiations" clearly does not have the general population's best interest at heart.

And if this happens, what will families like mine do? We will be on a military base, no farming of any kind. I may have it right now, but next year, when we're stationed, nope.

I imagine I could put away things in a pantry, but then I'll have to move it and somehow explain it to inspectors.

You can rent storage space in one of those U Lock It places? C-containers used to ship goods back and forth on ocean cargo ships can be purchased rather cheaply, compared to their actual scrap value.
