Chernobyl is in the Ukraine.

I'm aware, but the fall out spread is different in Belarus, Russia and the Ukraine.

Ukraine's soil is some of the best, if not the best in the world for farming. What can be grown there, combined with the access to other countries for trading makes it more valuable for purposes of farming and transportation of goods in general.

The plant itself is in Ukraine, but the exclusion zone includes parts of Belarus. It is just another bone of contention with Russia.

The promise of nuclear energy sounded so good, but we failed to factor in human nature and the vagarities of nature.

I see there has been a terrorist attack in China. Something like 28 people killed and hundreds wounded by knife attacks. The Chinese government will get to the bottom of that real fast.

I cannot fathom why someone would subscribe to a religion that seems to be based upon hatred and murder. The solution to all problems seems to be to kill someone. It seems as if most of the victims are totally innocent. Why kill innocent people? It boggles the mind.

Belarus is attempting to get farmers to go into the nearby areas to restore it to farm land with no success.

The life expectancy in the affected areas and quality of life is appalling in some sections. The rate of certain types of cancer and other associated issues makes it a hard life for Belarusians.

In Belarus, farming is traditional, with folks owning homes where they will go and farm in the summertime. Their currently was revalued awhile back and so farming has become a necessity for many Belarusians to be able to have enough food to eat. It is also tied with the national crafting of items made out of Flax, which is considered an art in their country.

It is such a shame that their country has been subject to some true horrors in its history.

Speaking of China, I wonder what they are thinking right now.

Looking on Google Earth, it looks so peaceful and beautiful. Those areas that had been cleared off previously are growing back. The planted forest is orderly and neat, but the area of regrowth is sort of willy nilly. I guess considering the circumstances, that should be expected.

No signs of human activity, no automobiles, no laundry hung out. It is eerie.

Hitler had big plans for the Ukraine and the Russian Steppes. It looks like Putin does too. Putting the Soviet Union back together may prove an impossible task. I suspect they will forget about all of the stans. They will probably cost them more than they will produce for them.

Ethnic Russians are scattered all through what was the Soviet Union. Let's see what happens next.

Loyalty to ethnicity has historically come before loyalty to country, which is a problem for countries that allow mass immigration.

This is why assimilation is listed as a form of genocide by the Geneva Convention.

It is not generally permitted for people to enter the hottest part of the zone, which is a crime. It is possible to get a tour to some of the less hot areas.

To think it is nowhere near as toxic as Lake Karachay, considered to be the most polluted place on earth.

What about the people in those countries? Are not all peoples entitled to their own nation, language, cultures and traditions?

I have such sympathy for those people trapped eternally by politics.

I hope we can calm down and avoid getting dragged into a war, but when the Ukrainians surrendered their nukes to us when the Soviet Union was dissolved, we agreed to protect them in exchange, which puts us in quite the political situation, unfortunately.

The people of the Ukraine should have remembered how well we kept our promises to the people of South Viet Nam. We didn't.

Unfortunately, it looks like they will be unwelcome guest in their own country again. Hopefully, it will go better for them this time.

Sorry gang but my mom down in Misssissippi had a heart attack this past week so I've been absent. And this has grown another 9 pages? And talking about the Ukraine now? Wow! Amyone notice Ancestry.com is now offering if you submIt DNA,they can narrow the area of the world your cave inhabiting far relatives came from? Wonder who is really behind this one? I'll bet ya the DNA you submit does not stay with Ancestry.com and someone else will wind up with it.Maybe NSA? I'm betting this is just a ruze like Cash For Clunkers was. We all remember that one,don't we? Who here knows why it was really created?
Another slam against O'bama family forced views on the taxpaying public,,here in Illinois this week one local school system is going to opt out of the federal food program that has been "guided" by Michelle O'Bama. This school district says they have lost thousands of dollars because most of the kids don't even bother to buy school lunches anymore at all,and the kids that do throws most of it away.If the kids takes their own lunches they cannot have certain items and they are searched before the kids are allowed to eat. Parents have finally complained enough the school board is considering bringing this subject up at thier next monthly board meeting.I hope many more follow suit.
I think I mentioned earlier that Illinois is wanting to impose a 1cent tax per ounce on soft drinks with the funds to go towards obesity. What a crock that is.They just passed a law that went into effect Jan1st if you throw a cigarette butt out your window while driving you can be fined $1000 too.Wonder when they will start making us pay a tax for the air we breathe? And these lawmakers are paid by us,and elected by us.
The Illinois State Lottery was originally passed into law here with all profits going to the school systems. This too is not the case.

Indiana was sold the same bill of goods on the lotto here, it turned out to be a lie also, plus we where told no casinoes, no riverboats no horse tracks. well we have riverboats that don't leave the dock (origonally they had to leave the dock) horse tracks with off site betting and betting parlors (no live games like poker or black jack but I am guessing it's in the works) and they wanted a casino in a land locked area so they built what locally has been called a "boat in a moat". yes they made a small man made pond and a custom built boat built on site that cannot be put into any other body of water and be moved (no motors, or even designed to be "sea worthy" to be even used as a barge let alone run under it's own power if it could be added.).

As I understand it, Cash for Clunkers was simply a good way to get the "older" (less controllable/track able) off of the road. On a side note, all of the vehicles we own are more than 15 years old. The oldest being 22 years old.

Ninja,,the idea behind Cash for Clunkers was to locate stolen cars. It was started by Insurance companies.
