The risk of food borne illness is a forum's worth of discussion all on its own, in my opinion.  There is a wide range of feeling about all this.  I am not about to try to "settle it once and for all."  I respect each person's decisions about how to proceed.

In the interest of helping people make informed decisions, here is, from the FDA's food safety web site, their angle on the risks associated with sprouted foo

And we all have our feelings about the FDA, I reckon. ;)

But what about people who are professionals in the sprouting field?  What do they say?

JodyDi. This is why I like facts rather than opinions billions of chickens are raised in cages so is that all there is to know? I. Just asked about precautions...nit that complicated. You can cover the chicken in feces laden with pathogens and as long as you cook it well its perfectly good to eat but my concern in asking was the ideal health of the chicken and prevention

There is a forum called Random Ramblings
https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/7/random-ramblings

Perhaps you could start a thread there. And emphasize, if you wish, that it is for sharing information and documentation as well as ideas about what kinds of new research would be most helpful. Those are just my thoughts - you can make your own guidelines.

Amiga. the info u provided was most helpful on preliminary findings the truth as usual is somewhere in the middle. you have put to rest my concern and I will avoid raw manure and its sources Thanks again

So you are saying chickens arent affected by E coli! Im not here to debate if gmos are evil Im just looking for experience. We can live and learn Pathogins are very real whether you like wikipedia or not. It was humans affected not goats and horses therr are things that can make humans sick but npt other animals. The Fda put new guidelines out so Im sure its not mass hysteria. Just trying to learn any precautions so my birds dont get sick

Please quote where I said chickens are not affected by e-coli, thanks.

You might notice it was a ? Not a statement You stated that you had Not heard of e coli until I mention it so to clarify I asked a question Why you get so uptight hmmm Others helped to clarify my concern and issue which is all I was looking for Thx
