Im trying out the experiment of hatching eggs.
The subjects are eggs from my own flock.
The lack of funds is the reason for home made bater. I had all the parts I need except a fan, 30wt bulb and a humidity thermometer.
Problem: I can keep temp at 100-108 fairly steady with a 60wt bulb, however I have to keep door propped open To do this i've tested it and it worked all night at that temperature. have a tray of water directly under bulb and it extends under where eggs will be.
I dont think with door open the moisture can stay and without a thermometer to measure it i will never know. so then the question arises if its the determining factor to failure or success.
okay now the rest of the story.. didnt realize I chose a box er boxes that would be too small to include a modified egg carton to use as a turner after adding my foam board. so I will have to open and turn each egg till the last few days. Again loosing heat and humidity.
Im more likely to have big time failure but I wont be loosing money at a huge rate. This morning I added a few eggs and sofar my problem has been the tape helping hold door open cant hold up to the heat and has fell open a few times.
I have no way to candle adequate enough to tell if its a viable egg to start with. Nor very helpful in determining if dud.
so here goes with a experiment that in all respects should end without success.
