First there is plenty of proof that cooper's hawks will attack full grown chickens. There are many videos of it on youtube.
Second, I know crows and bluejays are not predators of the hawk. But I have seen both relentlessly attack hawks until they leave. So this is what I mean that they help a great deal. Im not sure about other areas but the murder in my area is 100s of crows. But this hawk came in right at dusk, so all the crows were nesting already.
