This thread is a follow-up of another one (https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/sexing-a-legbar-chick.1600096). Right now I have three chicks, two Cream Legbar and a (Black Copper?) Marans. The black chick is the same for both pictures. I can arguably tell that the two Legbar are respectively a cockerel (the one without eyeliner) and a pullet (the one with the eyeliner), do you agree with me? I am not so sure about the pullet since it seems to me to have a bit of white barring on the wings.
However, I have no idea about the Marans. Is there any way to understand its gender, given that I am a novice in this field (so I would avoid checking its cloaca)? Thank you so much for helping!

I agree with your assessment of the Legbars :)

I think you’ll have to wait a few more weeks at least on the Marans, they don’t really show any gender specific coloring at a young age. You’ll mostly be keeping an eye on the comb and wattle growth. You should be able to make a good guess by 5-6 weeks. When the hackle and saddle feathers develop between 12 and 15 weeks, the gender should be obvious.

Thank you very much, I was worried about the pullet because of her not-so-dark colour. It is beautiful to know that I will have a Legbar hen! As for the Marans, I guessed it would have been difficult to tell: I will wait a bit more.
