Hi guys,

I am in Seattle area, so anyone know a breeder here, link me :D My question is, can you raise Peafowl and chickens together and house together? Do they get along with Mini Donkeys, Mini goats? But main question is, can I pen them with my chickens and can you get just one peafowl? Or do you need to get a pair? HELP guys I love these birds and want to own one of these gorgeous birds, maybe 2? All advice is more then appreciated.

Hello @Amjermyn and

, the Pea Department!

I'm not sure if any of our members are in your area, but I'm seeing some craigslist ads you might check out:

I don't have any experience myself, but as far as peas + chickens goes there are differing opinions here; some people are concerned because peas are disease-sensitive and can pick up illnesses from chickens. If you do a search you'll find many of these discussions.

For some basic pea info, you can take a look at the Peafowl Stickies:

Thank you so much for taking so much time to post links, as well as ALL of your wonderful suggestions. Do you have chickens? or Ducks? If so what type do you have?

Thank you again for the great advice and your time :D

I hatched peas and chickens together, I gave them to my brother, he says that the Australorp pullet still thinks she should be with the peafowl even though my brother has other chickens.
if you want to pay shipping here is a guy that ships

I would personally not recommend keeping peafowl with other types of poultry. Chickens and the like can carry diseases that do not hurt them but will kill peafowl. Blackhead in particular is a very nasty disease that is fatal to peas and often harbored by chickens. Some people have luck with keeping them together but it's one of those things that will always be a gamble and "it's all going well until it isn't". I kept the two together for almost a decade without incident and when a drought ended not so long ago I ended up losing alot of birds. While it is possible to make it work you have to be pretty aggressive with medication and de-worming of all the birds which I feel is not worth the trouble. Peafowl also tend to pick on chickens during the breeding season and whenever it's feeding time or time to pick a roost.

Oh Thank you so very much I appreciate that. We put a offer on a farm, if excepted, I cant wait to get my PeaFowl. Thank You very much <3

That is great advice. After reading that, I will make sure to house them in there own Coups. I was debating on getting chickens but, I want Peafowl for sure. I will be getting some ducks for the HUGE natural pond on our farm, I will have them live in own coops as well. Thank you so very much...
