How tall?

OK, so 5' - 6' plastic, floppy on the top to discourage roosting, seems to be the popular opinion. I don't want to deal with catching and clipping wings as only two of them (maybe three, Smokey is a little finicky about it) will even let me touch them. I don't feel like traumatizing the rest or giving them any more reasons to fear me.

As for the posts, straight steel (with incorporated hooks) should work fine, the "lower 40" is basically a couple inches of humus over soft unpacked clay, so staking and removing won't be a problem.
