How to change from paper towels to sand bedding

My chicks are 7 days old. How do I change bedding from paper towels to builder's sand? What do I need to watch for?

I would switch to news paper or cedar chips. If you are using chick crumbles, which I would be using

, they could mistake the sand for food and start eating it. I would wait awhile longer.

Everything I have read newspaper is bad, they do not have good footing and cedar chips are bad for their lungs. Guess I will go with pine. I am feeding crumbles. Thanks for the advice.

I switch to sand from a towel after a week or so. Mine have had a little bowl of sand while they were on the towel and have no problem with not eating all the sand once I switch.

I just remove the towel one day and instead of replacing with another clean towel, I put sand in it and put the girls back in again.
