How to know if I have a fantail pigeon or dove?

Fantail pigeons are great. I just sold 9 pure whites.
I kept 2 pair of breeders and expect to have a dozen by years end.

Btw. Pigeons are part of the dove family. For example, a "white dove release" is done with white homing pigeons, but we can say dove since they are part of the family.

So my pair who have one offspring just sat on two eggs that never developed. I finally removed the eggs. If they have one success is it possible the male has gone sterile? The woman who gave me the pair said she thinks so. Is that possible?
Would it be possible to use the son as the sperm donor for the female, his mother? The female doesnt seem to like being a pen with her son and away from her mate.
I would like to get some offspring from them mainly because Id like to get a mate for the son.
