I was devastated to find my rooster "Poppy" killed today. Luckily the culprit couldn't get to my hens. My rooster liked sleeping in his own room in the coop at night and I would leave the door cracked open a bit so he could get out in the a.m. to wander the chicken run. I didn't hear him making his normal crowing sounds early in the morning so I decided to go check on him. What I discovered wasn't pretty.
Somehow the culprit got in and out of the coop.
Now that the shock has warn off some, I am concerned about not having a rooster around to protect my girls. I am not sure what to do because I don't know how it would work to try to introduce another rooster to my 7 month old girls. Any thoughts? Thank you for reading this.
