When my daughter was little, I just made sure the consequences for irresponsible behavior were age-appropriate and not mixed with shame. I taught her that guilt was real, but could be redeemed (and promptly removed). I'm proud to say she's teaching her daughter the same thing.
I know nothing can replace the life that was in the egg, but it's a shame to waste the event if a lesson can be taught from it.
