My dog died after eating three of the chicks.
Still on cloud nine? :p
No, he didn't eat any chicks. You asked what if you refused to be bothered. That was my answer.
Holy shipping and handling!!!

I don't belive you... You woulda came over here sobbing within 5 seconds... And besides, you just said the dog was puking and dead dogs don't puke! :plbb

So yes, I am still on cloud 9. :weee

Why I like having a digital camera: I took 39 pictures, and whittled it down to 17. It enabled me to be sure I got a shot I wanted without wasting precious film. Oh, the trauma of old caneras (I had a Polaroid from the sixties!)!
Anyway, I have been wondering if the 4-week-old chicks had wandered outside yet. I looked in the run, and there they were! I'm glad that they had not wandered all the way out yet. I'm not sure if they would have stayed together, and all gotten back inside.
One of them was stuck in a canvas tarp. It could have been just a few minutes, or it could have been a day ( I did not think to check for poop).

I took 200 today... Imagine the cost of THAT amount of film! :th
Some of the 200: (Jace was being a diva; which is why there are so many pics of her. She was literally posing. :lau)

Got a little more done on the refrigerbator. The first fan I installed didn't move nearly enough air, so I installed a smaller, higher CFM fan and got the temp between the top and lower rack within 2 degrees F. This is without a thermostat, and I'm confident once the lights aren't running constantly the fan will circulate enough air to give a more uniform temp throughout the bator. I ordered one of these, which has .1F accuracy:

(this one actually comes with a 110V socket, not the universal socket pictured. $23 & free shipping on ebay.)

I also picked up a couple of 11"x11" double-strength glass panes from the building supply store, cut a hole in the door, and installed the inner viewing pane with aquarium silicone sealant. I'll give it at least 24 hours to cure before flipping it over to install the outer pane and a few fasteners:

Spring is officially here:

PS & FYI: If you are burning two 60W Halogen bulbs in your refrigerbator without a thermostat... and leave for half an hour... you run the risk of blowing up one of your thermometers:

After the couple of fires recently among members with heat lamps I decided to brood with the Sunbeam heating pad. While throwing out a broken space heater I realized that the grill from it would make a perfect frame for it so I scavenged it. This should be enough space to brood 50 to 75 coturnix chicks> I am just wondering which way I should lay the pad though.

The Grill

This way with the rest covered with a towel or

this way?

I'd put it the long way, the way it is in the bottom picture. How are you planning to raise it up in the front so they can get under it? What a find! Folks on the Mama Heating Pad thread would be green with envy. One thing, when you set it up make sure the printed side of the heating pad is down. It's the warmer side. Can't wait to see it all set up!
