Incubators Anonymous

I wish my husband would get interested in some animal. He mostly watches TV. But he has put up with an astounding assortment of animals over the years. So I guess he is a pretty good guy.

The other day I was out feeding the chickens and I must not have gotten the back door all the way closed. As I walked back to the house I hear my hubby laughing and look in to see two chickens on my laundry basket in the back room. I thought it was cool that he didn't get upset or anything he just laughed.

Today we went to the dump and I spotted a big wooden shipping crate - complete with a hinged door! SCORE

This will be so easy to convert to a coop for my silkies, still have plenty of left over paint from the coop we just finished and put lots of $$ and labor into. More coops = more brooders = more eggs! YAY!!! Even the DH was stoked with my find, and helped me load it up. Now....which breed to incubate next after my Cuckoo Marans and Dominique eggs hatch next weekend.....
wee.gif

Oh yeah. I wasn't going to hatch anymore eggs this year.

I have 10 2wk old chicks in the Brooder (formerly from the incubator). Said I was done for the year. Was given 13 duck eggs and a Show Girl egg, into the incubator they went. Then I saw my Silver Laced Wyandotte lay an egg so I latched onto it and added it to the incubator. I currently have 18 adult chickens; Leggerns, Buff Orphingtons, Light Brahama, Barred Rock, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Black sex link and combinations there of. Also have 5- 4 mo. old Blue Cochins, 9 - 4 mo. old Rhoad Island Reds. 1- 4 mo. old Burbon Red Turkey, 3-4 mo. old White Silkies, and one indeterminate age Black Silkie. 2-3mo old mixed chicks and 2-2 mo. old mixed chicks. My husband says I have way too many!

Well I just don't understand.... I only have 5 Minorcas, 10 silkies and 47 happy eggs in the bator
wee.gif
They are due to start hatching on Wednesday and I need more eggs
hu.gif
The bator just can't be empty, that's like wasting time as far as I can see. Maybe i will just sneak some in

Doesn't he know the rules ? We can't turn the Bator off because it might stop working because of all the dust and cobwebs that collect. Then you would have to buy another one, so keeping it on saves money:)

Love it Deb!!

The pictures of the three hens are out-dated. However, the pictures of Little Man are very recent (taken last week).

I hatched out these three Serama chicks from the above quad.

You need to bring him over to see my place. Once he sees Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, Black Australorps, Polish, Silver Laced Wyandottes, Speckled Sussex, Lavender Orpingtons, Rhode Island Reds, Buff Brahmas, Dark Brahmas, Giant Cochins, Easter Eggers, Silver Sussex, Buckeyes, Light Sussex, Coronation Sussex and Silkies, plus the untold mass of chicks and young birds, he will realize you hardly have any chickens at all. I don't count them, it is too scary. Besides, my husband might find out
