oh I'm so sorry about the lavender, it's hard when the get killed. i wish they were less vulnerable.

I know it's been about 2 years but I want to re-awaken this thread!! Just wondering if anyone has been working on this project? I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY want some Isabel Orpingtons but just can't justify paying $500 per chick. I'd like to work on this project myself but hoping for some feedback/advice on others who have done it.

What two color patterns of orpington create an isabel. I just keep getting a black bird with part yellow from a lavender x buff

Yeah,I'm sitting here with 2 of Chookschicks Isabel Roos and lost the girls! I need English Lav Orps!!!!! Or wait for my BBS to throw a black pullet or three (they're mostly blues) and roos split for choc. There is a barred hen tho............ Choc Isabels might be pretty......

I have a flock of Isabels at POL but they haven't started laying yet. I'm planning to start selling hatching eggs next spring if all goes well.

I'm going to have to take these to black, buff and barred hens I have and pray nothing happens to them.
Like dying unused bachelors of old age!
Trying to find a good english black or lav orp hen - my BBS orp hens are blue.

You need to take the F1's and cross them. 25% should then be Isabels, Half splits (same as the F1s) and 25% not split.
Mine have Lace/Penciling gene as well.

I actually hatched 5 hens from the 4+ eggs I bought from Graceful Chickens... Then I got a roo from the Fancy Chicks line from RareBreedAuctions - from someone that got them from Fancy Chicks. I think the offspring will be beautiful. The hens are solid Isabel but I think the roo is double barred... So I'm hoping for some Isabel cuckoo hens. We'll see what hatches! I can't wait. I'll post pics when I get a chance.

Wow they're GORGEOUS!!!! Im not going to be selling any birds for a long time I just want to work on Sq sop lines and show but I might try my hand at a project for fun. These sure are tempting!
