Hello all,

I am intersted in hatching chicken eggs that I will be purchasing from a reliable source. (not sure who yet). I would like to keep costs down but would like to have something reliable and some whistles, no bells.

I am planning on trying 24 eggs first and I don't think I will go over that number whenever I want to hatch.

What would be your recommendations on tried and true, new or used and any other suggestions you can provide. I'm in Colorado so it's dry year round and very cold in the winter.

Thanks.

Hi there and welcome to BYC!!

I've never hatched before but I totally understand your concern of hatching here in Colorado; I also live here. I recommend buying eggs from either Meyer hatchery, MyPetChicken or a farm store. Also, be sure to check out our learning center and hatching egg area. You can also check out this area for incubators recommended. https://www.backyardchickens.com/products/category/egg-incubators

Best wishes!!

You can buy hatching eggs in the sale section here on this site. I successfully have bought eggs from ebay making sure to check the feedback first and see where they are located. I have a hovabator and a Little Giant and both work well but I like the hovabator because it has the fan to keep air circulating. I've been using it for 6 years and never had trouble (bought it new). Good luck!

Thanks for the info spotsplus. I did actually see some really good buys on ebay for fertile eggs and made sure I read all the feedback. I may choose that route once I can decide on an incubator. I guess I'm going to have to take the plunge and just try one that I think will work best for me. I like the fact that your Hovabator has been running like a champ for 6 years now!

Take care.
