Here’s one of my cockerel. You can’t tell until they start feathering out. I have 2 incubators going with eggs all from my blue rooster so I get some blues!!!!

But I’ve also seen a lot of pics online where the blue was darker and more discreet. I’ve also seen pics that looked more like BLR Wyandottes with straight combs. So I wasn’t sure what to believe with internet picture searches, lol.

I totally agree. Sometimes the pics are a bit... idealized

They're here! I have 4 cuties (never mind that sneaky little Welsummer who photo bombed). Each one looks different, which is kind of neat. Two have noticably blue down on their sides/wings, but the other two are less noticable. Based on my knowledge of B/B/S breeding, I assume that it's possible to get traditional black barnies as well.

Thank you! And yes, they should all be pullets. They're named for the weather today- Hazy, Cloudy, Misty, and Foggy.

That looks like a regular Barnevelder to me?
She sure is beautiful though!

Looks like blue in barnevelders is the same as Andalusian blue. So breeding blue to blue would result in 50% blue, 25% splash, and 25% black.

@SandyRiverChick sometimes blue can be so dark that it looks black, but blue doesn't have the iridescent sheen like black does. I'd say your beautiful girl is a black BBS laced barnevelder.

She is gorgeous! I hadn’t thought about the black & splash factor. I am trying to order 4. Hopefully I’ll get at least 1 blue.
