Doing it this way helped with no possible small gaps. Where the hardware cloth isn't, the wood is. It looks like a bunch of windows, but it has kept my new flock safe. Nothing can get in!

A dog would be great and we had a westie terrier who would have torn it to pieces, I think?! They are rodent dogs, but I’m not sure how safe he would have been around my chicken.

I dont believe the minks ever interacted directly with the dog. His presence was enough of a deterrent. But note when he was tied up 20 feet away from the garage entrance, the minks figured it out and went it. The dog needs to be right at the door.
As for safety around the chickens, some dogs can be trained, with introductions, to ignore the chickens. This particular dog was always very gentle with the chickens. Two other dogs are mostly ok alone with the flock after training, with maybe one loss of a young chicken per year.
The other thing I did was clear out all the brush and brambles by the nearby creek. That took away their cover. Also made it easier for me and the dogs to spot an incoming predator. The creek also looks nicer now.
