I have a proposition for you folks on this forum...since I joined, I have seen quite a few people post questions about what the result would be if they mixed breed A with breed B(in fact, I believe my first post on this site was asking exactly that about a barred rock x buff orpington cross)... the chicken calculator helps, but those illustrations don't really give the best idea of what an actual bird looks like...so here is my idea... lets create a reference thread to show what you get when you cross two different breeds...
basically, people would just need to post photos of their crosses as well as list what was crossed with what to get it...

some basic guidelines:

1- photos need to be of adult birds... you can post chick pics in addition to the photos of adult birds, but the idea is to show what it would look like all grow-ed up...

2-try to only show the cross in question in a photo... if the only photo you have is of multiple birds, try to crop in on the one in question, or at least tell people which one it is

3-must be the crossing of two actual breeds... I suspect showing a cross between a mixed breed and a pure breed will only confuse matters

4-parent breeds must be listed as Rooster breed x Hen Breed... this is just to avoid confusion and make searching the thread for the specific crosses easier... and spell out the breed, no abbreviations

5-be sure to list the sex of the bird(s) shown... telling them apart might seem to be a no-brainer to a lot of us, but telling the difference might be tricky to a newb

other than that, go nuts... if someone has already posted a cross that you have done, post yours anyway... more pictures will only help...

here are mine

Barred Rock x Buff Orpington

Roosters

Hens

I'll have another one(Buff Brahma x Buff Orpington) in a couple of months

ok, folks... we seem to be loosing focus here... the reason I started this thread was not for people to post pics of there birds to ask what mix they are... not to be rude, but there is a whole subforum here devoted to figuring out what your chicken is( which I am aware this thread did get moved to after people started hijacking it for that purpose... wasn't too thrilled about that, but it was the mods call, so I can live with it), post your own thread there if you are wondering, please don't hijack this thread... nor was the reason I started it to post picks of any old mixed breed chicken... there are threads already started for that purpose as well... the point of this thread was to show the results of crossing two known breeds, so that if someone was wondering what they could get if they crossed a white leghorn with a rhode island red, they could look it up and have an idea what to expect... please try to keep that in mind...

Great idea! Here's mine. Silver Spangled Hamburg (mother) x Buff Laced Polish (father). =

At the time I hatched this hen all I had was chicks. One of my neighbors Speckled Sussex hens wondered up for a visit and was setting on some hay in our barn. She left behind a big pink egg. This was the first and only time we have ever had a visit from any of our neighbors chickens. We decided to think of the egg as a gift and set it. The only roo the neighbors owned was a big hatchery Red broiler Roo they kept back as a pet. So this is a Red Broiler Roo X Speckled Sussex Hen. As a chick she was yellow with chipmunk stripes on her back. She surpassed her mothers size is a huge hen and very good layer of a very large pink egg. We keep her for eggs and they r delicious LOL

This is Rodger: Splash Blue Laced Red Wyandotte Roo x Buff Wyandotte Hen

He was buff colored as a chick and feathered in with the lacing, He was the only one like this in his clutch though. He has 30 babies in the brooder now and 32 more eggs in the incubator. The only Splash he shows in a smudge on his tail but he's got quite a few splash babies. I have been told he would still be considered the Blue Laced Red, but I call him Buff Laced.

He's wonderfully sweet, I actually rehomed his daddy because Rodger was more mellow. He's gentle with the hens and gets along well with my other(new) rooster, Blue Wyandotte in back left of this picture. --->
