My coop design and build blog

We are getting closer to putting the protein out into the coop and run. Since it was a rainy day, I made 2 feeders and 2 waterers. One of each is in the brooder and they have taken to them very well. We will be able to remove the chick feeders and waterers from the brooder.

These are no spill/no waste feeders. They are weathrproof but will reside in a covered run and have a sealed lid so the food will stay clean and dry and should be hard to access by tiny rodents.

This stuff is so much different than the feeders and waterers we used 50 years ago on our farm.

This is all so amazing! I have enjoyed reading it all! I really love your sun shade idea. Could you please tell me how you ended up rigging it up? I live in a very similar climate as you in Northern New York and love the idea!!!!

After 2 nights, the chickens put themselves to bed. That means I could open the space under the coop to them. I had it blocked off since I didnt want to be crawling under the coop on hands and knees to retrieve chickens that didnt know how to go back into the coop at night.

This opens up another 6 ft x 8 ft area to them during the day. Now that seems to be the place they like to hang out despite the fact that the run is 10 x 26 ft.
