Be careful with the rat poison, make sure it's where your chicks/chickens won't get into it nor other pets/animals, the dead body carries the poison. I prefer the spring loaded traps, instant kill.
We don't have spring loaded but we still have the old rat cages we used before and rat glue.
and i agree, we have seen what rat poison can do as we have an incident here before where one of our dogs have eaten the rat poison. (that time we mixed the rat poison with sardines for it have a appetizing smell). Anyway the dog was slowly paralyzed and died a slow death (we cant save it) so lesson learned for us. (have to put it to a place where dogs or cats cant access it easily.)
