Hi! I'm trying help some elementary school teachers out with a chick that hatched with a slipped tendon. It had been hopping around on one foot for a WEEK before I took possession of it. I haven't been able to "roll" the tendon like I've read, I'm assuming it's bc it has gone untreated for too long. My question is, what can I do? I have casted the leg with a smoothie straw as they are bigger and I have it in a hammock with both legs suspended. I'm working on stretching the leg as much as I can throughout the day. Am I wasting my efforts? I'll attach some pics.

First is a sore - it feels like a bone in that area.
Second is me doing stretches.
Third is the "cast".
Fourth is the leg from the back

I'm going to have the teachers buy some vitamin B for me to give, as I've read it can help if there's a deficiency. I'm also going to give nutri-dench. I hope I can get it walking somewhat normal but it feels like it's going to be exhaustive.

How's the chick doing now? While a favorable outcome is more likely when a leg problem like a slipped tendon is treated quickly after it occurs, I think it's completely reasonable to try to help even if the problem isn't "new".

Hoping your efforts have improved this chick's condition. Kudos for trying!

Well, I had to leave the chick with a friend for the weekend and I think she wrapped the leg wrong so when I came back I had lost what I had gained. I re-wrapped it and I'm waiting until tomorrow to change the wrap and do some stretches. The leg goes out to the side. It will rest on its foot but still won't walk on it. Here's some pics from today. That foot is smaller than the other. It can straighten the toes but often curls them. I'm still trying to figure out what to do.

Slipped tendons can sometimes be very difficult to reposition and, afterward, maintain correct positioning. There are also other conditions that sometimes look a bit like a slipped tendon but are actually deformities.

If you're limited to treating this condition yourself, I'd continue trying to correctly position the leg and offering the supplements. Even if its leg doesn't become "normal", it can still have a good quality of life - there are plenty of folks on here with poultry who live with leg issues. This thread on caring for special needs chicks may come in handy, too.

Best wishes for your chick - it looks like a little fighter!

I gave the chick to a friend that has more time. She thinks it'll eventually end up a one legged chicken but we'll see. She's been looking into a couple different options.
