New Jersey

I realize most people here are hobbyists & or raise chickens & ducks for eggs & or for meat. I do not. All of mine are rescued from ponds & parks. They are my pets.
IF you know of people/places in NJ or nearby in Pa. that would take in unwanted chickens, roosters & ducks but do NOT eat them, would you please send me their contact info.? I get calls for help placing unwanted & discarded poultry. I can not take in anymore birds. "The inn is full."
I already know the nice people at The Funny Farm & NJ Farm Animal Rescue & Sanctuary in South Jersey. Rather, I am looking to connect with people with small flocks who treat their birds as pets & would not hesitate to bring them to an avian vet if they are ever sick. I am a long time vegan & animal activist, the daughter of a Poultry Scientist who grew up up with ducks. Any adopting person/family need not be--just be caring, kind, responsible people. Thank you in advance for any help. Wishing you & your flock well.

I’m located in Bethlehem Township in Hunterdon County near the border of PA and have 2 purebred Welsh Harlequin drakes I want to give away. I hatched out the 3 drakes pictured below on 4/1/23 so they’re going on 8 weeks. Did bill sexing and they have no quack so I presume they’re all males. I have to even out my ratio of boys to girls. If you live far away, maybe we can meet halfway. If you have any extra roosters that are more docile, I’m willing to trade as well.

Hi all
I am in need of a butcher/processor in or near Sussex County, NJ to process 30 meat chickens. If anyone can help or steer me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.

We have two pairs (M+F) of black bantam cochins available! Happy to drive a little ways to meet and hand them off. 45$ Mix and match whichever male and female you would like.

Free Rooster - Blue Laced Wyandotte. Beautiful bird, born this past March. Still finishing feathering in (Photos taken 7/26, so he's more feathered in now).

Unfortunately we can't keep roosters. It was an unintentional purchase when we bought some chicks this spring.

Free to a good home.
West Long Branch, NJ.

Hi everyone, I'm from central jersey, south Brunswick to be exact. I don't know many places near me that sell chicks. I'm looking for 2 more chickens to add to my flock of 3 Easter eggers. They are currently 11 weeks old. So I'm hoping to find similar aged females chicks to add into the mix. I also don't know many ppl here that keep chickens.

Check out Red Valley Ranch farm on book of faces. They have chicks this late in the year, but not sure if you’d find any exactly at 11 weeks. They are really good at giving sexed chicks. Only down fall is the minimum is 3 chicks. Good luck.

I’m in your area, I’ll ask around, but no one comes to mind for sure.

There’s a place called Belle Meade co-op in hillsborough I think, they have a list behind the register of chicks you can order from a local person, but they are not sold as store product, I think you get the number and call the person directly but I’m not certain. You can call the store and ask if they can still contact that person.

Thought I'd throw NJ into the mix!
I'm in central NJ, former guardian to a wonderful roo and hen. Sadly, she died in November and he was so depressed. He had taken such exemplary care of her - she was treated like a princess. The coop was on property not mine and the owners didn't want more chickens so I searched and searched for a good home and adopted him out in November. Things were wonderful until recently, when the young hens there began attacking him badly. He is so gentle and loving to hens that he doesn't fight back. I have been asked to take him back (with a hen along for to keep him company) and am scrambling to figure out the building of a safe outdoor run on my property as I am no longer able to be home at dusk like I managed to do before. These people are also no longer comfortable feeding him the special things a roo needs to stay healthy (I had him on a combo of wild game bird food, sunflower seeds, scratch, fruits, veggies, and Avia Charge 2000 in water. He refuses layer food).. Ideally I need a wonderful home for him with someone who is like many of us on BYC who will pull out all the stops to provide good care. A place with no other roos and no crazed attacking hens. Refined gentle adult hens. He needs an understanding soul who can help him adjust and who wouldn't mind my helping at first (he's been through so much in such a short time). It is extremely difficult for me to have chickens at this time but it looks as though I have to get him out of there promptly.
I have several English Orpington cockerels to rehome.

They are 15 weeks old, the White and Chocolate Cucckoo are from Carolina Rare Chicks eggs, the Black, and Blue are from my Lavender Rooster (Blue Mountain Orpingtons) and English Orpinfton hens. Pictures of my rooster and one of my hens included.
