The top one is a rooster. How old is the black one (with feathered feet)? Yes, hens will get red in the face before they lay which is why I am asking about age.

The top bird is a cockerel. I think the second is a pullet close to laying. Cockerels typically start laying from 4-5 months, but sometime it is considerably longer, and on rare occasions it can be nearly a year before crowing begins.
They are both definitely cockerels Although the first one's gender was more obvious, the second has a couple shiny and pointed saddle feathers which always indicate cockerel.
