Just finished my very basic but functional collapsible coop!
Thank you for posting this, I really needed some ideas on building summer time movable coops for my flocks, and we can get free pallets all day long, I think its a wonderful design to repurpose materials and save money all at once! Thank you for posting step by step images also, you have inspired me to build my "fleet" of little pasture coops!

RE: OUR 'FORT ORPINGTON' COOP/RUN~
I FORGOT TO ADD PHOTOS OF A FEW THINGS THAT HUBBY CAME UP WITH THAT PERSONALIZED OUR COOP SUCH AS PHOTOS OF THE SWING-OVER PERCH HE DESIGNED SO WE WOULDN'T HAVE TO PLAY 'LIMBO' WHEN CLEANING THE RUN, LOL!

I leaded the coop windows and Adam trimmed~

Although our coop has a nice window screen, we were afraid it might not be 'predator-proof' enough...
Adam designed and made this interior screen that fits behind the regular window screen and slides from side to side, out of durable hardware cloth and stuff we had in the shed, and made the wooden turnbuckles that keep it in place.
Great job, honey~

...The little night light inside the coop that lures our girls in every evening. We are just using it to train them.

Inside of the run, Adam designed the neatest swing-out perch and made it from a maple branch...
So great, Adam~

Because it is low for us and we'd have to duck down every time we were cleaning the run, he came up with an ingenious way to latch it into place on one end, and he has an iron 'butterfly' hinge on the other end...
For cleaning the run we unlatch and swing the perch over to the opposite side wall where it sits on it's own bracket. We just swing it back and latch it into place when we're through!

Thanks so much! We had to do everything on an almost non-existent budget and are although not fancy, we think our "historical coop", Fort Orpington really fits our house and life!
The kind comments really mean a lot to us!

Hi, I hope that my coop is entered in the contest...I am having trouble posting without starting a new thread!

Great pictures @countryladyNH ! But I think you need to create a coop page in order to enter the contest.

You can view the rules here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...page-contest-winter-spring-2016#post_16351971

And this article tutorial gives a step by step in creating an article: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/article-tutorial

Hope that helps!

I had already created a coop page before I entered the contest! A manager from this site picked our coop to be featured on the HOME page, and they emailed me with instructions on what to do, and we did it quite awhile ago! Thanks so much for the help~
