Most of my Australorps are Blue, but I do hatch what seems to be more than the statistically appropriate amount of blacks, a couple of which I've kept. This young fellow looks promising.
I had a couple Black Langshans, including my glorious Ludwig:
And several black crossbreeds of different types, including this delicate beauty:
Do midnight majestic marans count as marans? I have 4. They are very friendly but don’t like being picked up. Cricket is one of them that slaps me in the face when I do They are awesome at laying beautiful brown eggs.
I was told by a local farmer if you have black chickens you lose less to hawks? He said the hawks think they may be crows?
I have one black australorp, one black copper maran, and two black sexlinks. Thats it for black chickens for now. I thought I was hatching black sexlink hen X silver splash EE roo chicks, turns out it was Silver splash EE X a buff orpington hen, 10/10 would recommend. Let me dhow all chicks above, warning I only have chick pics of some of them at the moment.
