Ordered 25 Cornish Cross and 12 White leghorns from Meyer Hatchery today. Not sure of exact delivery date because my friend was adding his chicken order to mine before sending. I am so excited - I have never raised chickens before but have been reading this site for over a year as well as Joel Salatin's books and Chicken Tractor by Andy Lee. I can't wait!!!!

Welcome aboard. Careful, fuzzybutts are addicting. :)

This is my first year ordering chicks, too. Yesterday I was thoroughly excited to receive my confirmation from Hoover's Hatchery. Seeing the hatch/ship/arrival dates (late March) on the confirmation has all of a sudden made the whole thing quite real. Glad I started getting my brooder stuff together.

Whoo hoo! I will never forget how excited I was when I turned onto my block and saw a cardboard box full of little baby chicks on my porch! I have done egg and meat birds, and they are both a blast! Have fun!

11 years ago I started raising chickens, got chicks from the feed store, back then.
2 years ago I started ordering chicks directly from the hatcheries.
Last year I got an incubator and now am hatching my own or purchased eggs.
Along the way I got 2 pyrenees to help protect my flock.

Yep..........chickens will change your life.
