You may want to mention that in Europe people keep backyard chickens in the nicest of neighborhoods.
My friends in Germany, France, Belgium, Holland and England think it is quite funny that Americans can't have a few chickens in their backyards, whether in the city, suburbs, or country. They just shake their heads.
Maybe some of the more, um, snotty people on the city councils etc. would be swayed by that. They seem to revere anything European..
