Oregon

I'm in Dayton, OR, living on 5 acres out in the country. We have 13 hens (though I believe at least one of those 'she's is a 'he'), as well as 15 meat chickens that should be ready to go at the end of July. Of course, chickens aren't the only thing we have on the farm, but those are the most fun, for sure!!

There are no regulations out here since we're not in city limits, though I don't believe that the city has very strict ordinances either since this is a farming/FFA community.

I'm looking for a breeder of standard Cochins in Oregon. Prefer close to Portland but I'm willing to travel. Any one know of someone?
Thanks!

You can have up to three 'farm animals' without a permit, which can be three chickens, three ducks, three goats, one of each, anything you like. Any more than three though and you need a permit. I'm thinking about it, though, because it's only $30 to have more chickens... and we all know how chicken math works. I'm fully expecting to have at least 7 by New Year's.

Sadly, no roosters even with a permit, which is a bummer!

Welcome faebun - We have chicken for the first time this year as well.

We also have quails and they also lay daily, just much smaller eggs :) - there are no limit on quails. We hatch 27 super cute quails two weeks ago and sold 6 to my coworker for $1 each... was a fun project.

Hello oregon BYCers. I live in the central Wilamette valley and am wondering if anyone knows of a person that sells Blue laces red wyandottes, either hatching eggs or chicks. I had 4 from the local wilco but the dog got in the brooder and killed the 2 blue cockerels, I'm left with 2 splash pullets with less than desirable lacing and would really like to get some new birds. Also interested in started birds or a breeding trio or quad. Thanks

You should check out Oregon Poultry Classifieds( https://www.facebook.com/groups/881685715228934/ ) on FB. I got my Orp's from a local breeder on there and I've seen quite a few BLRW's on there lately. Everything from hatching eggs to older chicks from last fall.

You could also look for Central Oregon Chickens 101 ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/Chickens101/ ) I haven't seen any on there but you can always put out an ISO post and see what you get.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the great suggestion. I'll check it out. :)

Thank you so much for the great ideas. I'll look into them. I had no idea where to look besides Craigslist. This really helps.
