Hello, our Orpington has developed a baseball-sized lump under her vent over the past few weeks. Last night it seems to have ruptured and is getting worse. She has been eating, drinking, and laying as usual - One beautiful brown egg today. We have been giving her salt baths, and just started on antibiotics today.
My question is - Has anyone seen this before? Is it her abdomen, or just an abscess? Also, What could be the potential cause of the large lump? I am aware it could be ascites, but she has been acting relatively normal. Any insight would be appreciated!

She has herniated her abdomen. That looks like bowel. I would put her down or get her to a vet now. Otherwise, she will die a miserable death with infection and peritonitis. So sorry. She could have had internal laying or ascites that caused the swollen belly. Some hens will also more rarely get a hernia, and if that gets pecked or injured, this could happen.
