Pekin Duck Club!

Ever since I got my pekin drake a girlfriend, he has been rather aggresive towards me. He used to give me duck hugs and nibble my fingers, but now I have to wear sleaves to give him water or food so I dont get attacked. Is this normal? Then hen isnt even laying yet. They dont get out like they did in the summer because it is so cold.
Also, sadly, a mink got my grandparents 6 ducks. Including 4 muscovies, a magpie, and a pekin hen that was sisters to mine. This means that all the ducklings in my avatar now reside in duck heaven (Besides the pekin)
i dont know about the agression but she probably wont lay until summer the temperature is not what cuases them not laying its acutly it is the amount of light they get in one day i would put a light on them next year

The aggression is not really "normal" or not. Some drakes get aggressive, even when you don't see signs of them being mature. Some do it when you add a mate, some just do it. If he's aggressive to you, it's important that you let him know that's not appropriate. One person on one of the forums suggested using a broom to push the drake away when he is behaving inappropriately (gently). Others say to hold the duck down till he stops struggling. The broom seems the easiest answer. In any case, do not back away from the duck or let him continue biting you. If he bites at you when you feed him, push a bucket between he and you. You can try this for a few times and then wait for him to back off before feeding him. In other words, make him back off to get the food. It will take a while, but the sooner you start, the less set-in the behaviour is and easier to control.

Oh, when I mentioned she wasnt laying yet and that it was cold, I wasnt refering to eggs. That was just a statement. I know about the daylight they need.
And he isnt really biting anymore unless I reach to grab the hen. When I was refering to summer, I meant that all summer I would get them out to go for a swim and to handle them, but since the cold, all I can do is give them food and water.
Well. I guess it is normal, but I read that pekins are normally more friendly than this.
Thanks for the info!

my ducks are being rehomed tonight because the drake is getting very aggressive with my chickens. I have had them together since they were brought home. but since they are in the coop most of the time and the female has started nesting her egg that he attacks the hens. I have no other place for them so they are going to a new home. I hate losing them but I can't allow the hens to be abused by him.

It's the right thing you are doing, even when it's sad.
