Pen Floor Material - My holy grail

We live on 40 acres of pine tree farm. Pine trees provide free bedding and my ducks seem to prefer it over straw or leaves. I did recently read on a Metzer farm blog that it needs to be chopped though, to provide maximum liquid absorption. My husband's going love it when I ask him to start chopping the pine needles - ha!
