What an awful week! Two days ago I went to let my two beautiful girls out in the morning, to find one of them had died in the night. She was fine the day before so it was a complete shock. They are almost 7 years old so I expected her to be with us much longer.

I’ve been bringing the other into the house so she can spend time around us and not feel too lonely or depressed, until we organise another companion for her.

I’ve gave her a check over and she has a large mass to the right side of her back end. Almost like an egg that is hard, but moveable. You can see it from above. Her skin is red around the area. She is acting normal and eating/ drinking/ pooing. I would have taken her to the appropriate vets as soon as I found it but we are snowed in at home. Any advice at all would be so appreciated.

It’s been a heart breaking week 💔

I'm so sorry to hear this. What a heartbreak! :hugs

Until you can get her to a vet, I would suggest some heat therapy on the mass. Warm compresses, warm baths, stuff like that. Also, would it be possible to post a picture, please? It would help me and others in suggesting treatment.

Thank you for responding.
I’ll try and get a close one of it, but you can see the positioning here. She’s gone through/ finishing her moult, and I’ve read what I can, which has made me wonder whether it could be an infection from an ingrowing feather. But I’m thinking something to do with feathers/ eggs/ oil gland. Really no idea though!

It feels like there is also a small lump on the opposite side (same position), but no where near the same size…
