Popular Saying That Originated From Chickens

Like two old hens fighting over a turd.

Meaning fight over something worthless. My mother said it.

My dad would say,"Boy! you'd rather put socks on a banty rooster than get on my bad side!"
OR
"That's like puttin' socks on a banty rooster."

Something hard to do or dangerous depending on the roo.

"mad as a wet hen.."
I never did get that one....
Mine just stand out in the rain, go figure....

Okay I have a weird one, it's not an old saying, it's going to become the next great saying!

But, you have to hear the story behind it first.

When my DH and his younger brother were kids they took a frozen chicken from their Mom's freezer and stuck it in a neighbors mailbox. They hid behind the bushes as the neighbor checked his mail. When the neighbor saw the now melting chicken he said, "Oh man! There's a chicken in the mailbox!" I guess it was the way the neighbor said it that really made an impression on my Dh.

So now when something is out of ordinary or not going quite right, he'll say "Oh man! There's a chicken in the mailbox!" Now it's kinda became our little family quirk and I just love to say it. It's much better then saying *&%*%*&*(^(@&)&)!!!!

I think it should become a new popular saying! Okay...so my family is a little off, but next time something isn't going quite right, give it a try!

"Oh man! There's a chicken in the mailbox!"
