I had 12 chicks in a Rubbermaid toy chest for 5 weeks, and kept them warm with a clamp-type mechanics 'trouble light' with the wide silver reflector on a chair leg, then on the back. Just kept raising it up higher every 2 days. When they started jumping out of the chest, it was time to go to the coop. They did fine, though it was July.

Yes the heat pad is the right temperature for baby chicks and other baby animals. So it would not harm the porta cot. I’m happy it’s very safe. Heat lamps and reptile heaters are much less safe.
