I wanted to update in case anyone else like me doesn't have tractor space but wants to raise meat birds. They are now 7.5 weeks old (4 days til processing date) and I'm so pleased with them! The smell is manageable, I've gone through two bales of shavings (one to start the 10x10 area inside and one that I added as I pulled out heavily soiled bedding). I open the door to their outdoor pen (also about 100 sq feet) and they charge outside and then wander back and forth throughout the day. Limiting feed to twice/day and giving lots of space has really helped. So far, knock on wood, all are active and happy and moving around fine still. I weighed a couple of volunteers today and the largest was just under 8 lbs. They are Ideals Cornish X.
