We got a pair of 1 year old Red Goldens this spring and the hen has laid a clutch of 9 eggs and started setting!!

We are very excited to get babies. I have read though their eggs may not be fertile until they are 2-3 years old.

Does anyone have experience with these birds? I've had chickens for many years and peacocks for about 6 years, but am new to Goldens.

Lots of times a yearlings will not lay fertile eggs, I think its because they are not coloured out yet and the hens are not too fond of a plain brown male and wont let him do his thing.

With Goldens and Amherst its not too uncommon for yearlings to sucessfully raise babies though, so I would not worry too much.

Very good deal that the young bird went broody, I've only had older hens set. It is very possible that you will have chicks, first year goldens are often fertile.
