i have rhode island reds which look similar to yours and lay the same colored eggs , do you know why this is ?? I'm certain mine are purebreds

Welp, I guess from what I'm reading here, my RIRs aren't "real".  Dang. Guess I got gyped. Oh, wait, no I didn't....check these out.

I've had RIRs for several years along with barred rocks, BO, Austrolorps, etc. All of my RIR eggs look like yours. Medium brown w/ occasional freckles.

this is same color that my RIRs have layed and yes some will and do have the little dark brown spots I do not know why but they do,by the way €*BEAUTIFUL EGGS* could you post a picture of your hens and do you have a rooster?

LoudHen, I was commenting on a picture of someone else's eggs. My RI Reds lay the same colored eggs and all that I've ever owned have layed the same shade w/ or without speckles. Hatchery or not.

My hens have just started laying. I posted a response on the Barred Rock page. I have two Barred Rocks and one Rhode Island Red. One of the Reds laid a small brown egg that was speckled. Yesterday I found one white egg and one light brown egg. It either came from the BR or RIR. I never expected a white egg. One woman wrote that coloring comes as the egg descends. I don't know, but I am just very glad to get eggs! Now I've got to figure out how to get them to lay in the various nests I've bought and constructed since they all want to lay in the small box they used when they were young and still continue to use at night: four hens squeezed into a small grey box with a hole. It's a comedy routine. I just hope they don't break any egg.
