I would like to replace my RIR rooster just lost him a little bit ago .
Anyone in southwest Pa know where I can find one?
Also lost a del hen ld like to replace them both, any suggestions I'd like to maybe have some white eggs to go with the brown eggs

Thanks! Looks like if I had just been patient a day or 2 I could have figured it out myself. Today, 2 others seem redder in the face and comb. Just one lone little slow developer left.

the new boys got them from a young woman who live pretty close and me, she said they are about 5 months old.

Now that the boys (who are 5 months old) are in with the hens(who are 3 months old) how long will the roosters try to bread the hens? At what age do the hens start to squat for the roos? Or is it going to be trial and error for the roos until the get it right?

sorry no coffee yet.

How many hens and how many roosters you got?
Are they in coop/run situation or free ranged?

If they are in coop/run situation most likely that only one rooster will be allowed to breed the hens is why I asked.

They can actually try to breed the hens before they are mature enough, may be why your hens aren't happy with them. but they usually start to squat when they are mature enough to be laying eggs which can vary slightly usually around 16-20 weeks if i remember right without having said coffee lol.

Hopefully you've had your coffee, I've had three already!
I have two roos and five hen, they are in a coop/run situation until the roos learn where home and food/water is.
Hopefully soon they will all be free range. They range through the day and coop at night.

general rule of thumb is at least 5 hens per rooster or pen them separate other than free ranging, once the hens mature you are gonna have your hands full and really angry hens and the fight will be on, you'll be lucky if any of them have any feathers. So I would recommend either separate penning or getting more hens.

now running to get coffee.
