what did u use for the roost and now did u put in the dog crate ?!

I used a fallen tree branch that was thick enough for them to perch on but thin enough to fit through the wires, and on the floor of the crate I put at least 1” of pine shavings (though straw would probably be a better option).

Also before I put the pine shavings I laid down some feed bags (cut them open so they lay flat); it made cleaning much easier.

I brought four chickens on a sixteen hour trip (one way) for Christmas last year. I put two chickens each in a large wire dog crate with a roost and straw/pine shavings on the floor. A couple hens laid eggs during the trip, we just put them in a cupholder and kept on driving . You’ll be fine, have a great trip!

I haven’t done 16 hours but I took two on a 3+ hour trip and I did the same as you.
It was at night and they stayed roosted on a stick that was stuck through the dog crate bars.
At one point some idiot driver pulled out in front of me and I had to slam on the brakes. Amazingly they managed to stay roosted on the stick (though they did complain about my driving for about 29 mins!).

Yes, ours didn’t like the potholes -

Probably just as well you couldn't understand what they were saying. I suspect their language may not have been suitable for polite company!
