Rooster, what do I do?

I got three chicks around the beginning of July and I have a roo. and I don't know what to do, he just matured, if you know what I mean, and I don't know what to do, he is not at the top of the pecking order but is getting there and he is going at a EE and I don't know if I should put him in a dog crate, sell him (or trade), or just leave him be.

Just a quick update, I put him on Craig's list, and gave him away to a vet who had 11 hens with a huge coop, he gets to hang with the hens, and I just found out 3 days ago, that he is a father to 7 chicks (it would be 8 but nature took it's course) I'm glad that he is a happy rooster with a little family of his own.

Hmm. Maybe he just needs his own space. Mine started acting up to the point he was picking on my hens. After watching him a bit, I figured out he's Water Aggressive. He protects his water feeder constantly. Even perches on it. So I made him his own coop. Now he's chill and pretty quiet.

Ok thanks, I don't think I could make him a whole new coop for him (where spending a lot of money for wood on our duck house) but would a 3-5 dog crate work? Of course I'd give him water and food.

Would you be able to put a little roost in it? Then it could sleep cozily.

Sure. You only need 3 Sq ft per chicken. But I would rig something up with pallets or material around your yard and give him A bigger space during the day to roam. You can sometimes buy chicken wire cheap on Craigslist and leftover pieces of wood.
Also my chickens LOVE ants. So maybe a wire kennel that you could put him in and move around your yard to eat Anta. ;-) Cheaper than Ant Killer.

Yah totally, just would I put it in my run or leave it outside of the run but still in view, cuz he gets mad if he can't See his girls.:cd

Oh for the wire kennel, it would need a bottom to move it around. Then remove the bottom so he can eat the Ants.

Whatevers easiest. You'll know as ya move it around, what works.
