Make it as high as the tallest human that's going to be inside there.

I didn't quite hit that mark myself - at lowest the netting is about 6' high, which is a few inches shorter than hubby, but he knows where to duck. And I do all the maintenance in there anyhow, so it was more crucial that I fit comfortably.

I got out of putting up 6’ of hardware cloth, and all that work with unyielding steel. My hardware cloth only comes up to about 4’, then I put a few shepherds hooks in the run before I threw on the bird netting. I can walk all over inside, it’s about 6’ high throughout the run, and I saved a ton of work and time! Good luck, don’t make your run too short for your own convenience. You’ll regret it. If you can tolerate potential losses to aerial predators (or climbing ground dwellers), the sky is the limit. If you need a completely enclosed, predator protected run? Your height plus at least a foot, better two. 8' has the advantage of coming "pre-cut" at the big box store. So you don't feel the need to duck as you walk around in there, and so you aren't poking the roof, every time you use the rake.
