Sapphire gem pullet or cockerel?

Haha that is me every time we have chicks. This time he was even more annoyed because they are sex links. :lau
This is so me too!!! I have 3 at 3 weeks now though these pictures are almost a week old. And of course the lighter one has me concerned with the comb growing so big so fast. Penny is the one most in question.

They get combs early and grow fast. Everyone thought they had cockerels early on. I got 15 pullets from Hoover and some of mine looked that way too, especially the darker ones. I wouldn't worry.

Yeah, all mine ended up being girls. I did notice that the males do end up getting a lighter ring around their eyes while the females stay dark. I think it’s part of the barring gene so look for that when you question the sex. I think it’s noticeable starting around 2-3 weeks. I included a picture from Pachecopeeps flock to help show what I mean about the ring. The barred rock has the yellow or light ring around the eye where as the pullet sapphire gems have a black or dark ring.

That comb growth and redness is obvious of a cockerel plus the barring on his hackles. Young cockerels don’t spar as much as you think, especially since it sounds as if the sebright is the dominant rooster.
They are siblings raised by the same mom, of the 4 Sapphire gems I had this is the only one that survived.. I am the catch all of chicks that aren't going to make it.. all my friends and the manager at the feed store seem to think I am a vet...
