Ditto the water behavior Mine love the rain water that puddles where they dust sometimes after a rain. Yuck! Go figure.
My Del rooster still has a powder puff tail.

I so wanted him to outgrow it. He was hatched in April. Is there still a chance he will change.
One of the Del hens is laying yeh!!! A pinkish brown egg. Nice size for a pullet. We have such short days where my coops are that I use a light almost yearround to wake them up. They go to
bed on their own though which is earlier and earlier. My new GNH pullets from Kathy are laying like gangbusters.
Please tell me the powder puff tail will go away. He is a nice broad , gentle roo.

It will probably be gone by the time he's a year or so old Gloria Jean. Milio took about that long to finally get his proper adult tail feathers. He looks pretty nice until he goes into molt, an then it's the powder puff tail all over again, until he grows out a new one.

Hoping that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Denny and I are truly grateful for the 2 point by 3 point bull elk that the Great Spirit saw fit to place in our path this past Tuesday. It was a lot of work to get him out of the woods, but now we have ample meat to get us through the coming year!

congrats on the Elk. You got pictures? I've never had it.

we have quite a few deer here but I've never been taught to hunt. I don't own a gun either. My late brother Dennis was a hunter, but none of the men thought to teach me. That and an over protective mother.

Well I guess I should be more specific. NY has lots of deer but it's a rare thing for me to see any on our property.

Seems they prefer more urban areas. Sad but true. Folks here have fits about thinning the herds. Guess they'd rather see them die of disease.

Any how post those pictures. I'd like to see them.

GREAT JOB ON THE ELK - We got a small 6pt [ eastern count] white tail . Not a trophy but some tenderloins and 20 # of deerburger canned and frozen - Yum
Recovery consisted of loading him on truck and hauling 250yards . We like to shootem close to the processing station LOL

First, we saw this big girl about an hour or so before Denny shot his bull. I'm guessing that she was a younger cow moose, as she didn't have a calf at her side. What a treat to see her. They do exist around here, but by and large, moose are a fairly rare sighting. In the nearly 10 years that we've lived out here, this was only the third time we've seen one.

And here is Denny with his bull elk:

We just took the meat to the butcher today. Betweween what we processed from the neck and back strap ourselves and what we took in, we should be looking at around 200 pounds of meat total. Yep! That should hold us until next year!

I'm sure we have moose and there has been a sighting or two of black bears.

I can't see why everyone is so hot to build more casinos in the Adirondacks. Have they learned nothing from Onondaga lake?

Congrats on the elk I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
