It’s very possible
Khaki Campbell ducks were created from mallard , Rouen and runner. So if you breed outside the khaki and cross it you will see other genes come through
So you could think you have a purebred mallard but it may carry the khaki gene
If that makes sense
My boys from mom pekin and dad khaki don’t look anything like either
The girls look a more khaki
Boys look more Rouen / mallard
