Soap makers of BYC!

Weird question - early May of this year I was out in the woods and found some bubbles forming at the base of this tree. Has anyone ever seen this happen before? Natural lye? It reminded me of soap making!

I did a little looking and found this and a few others saying similar things on the topic: https://bygl.osu.edu/node/1595

Sounds like it could actually be a type of crude soap, by the bare definition of what soap is, but I don't know that I would scoop it up and wash with it or anything. 🤭

Please don't use bacterial slime to wash your hands. The real type is only formed by rain.
Definitely not! I tend to think it was tree suds, since it happened after a light rain and not on a pine tree. But, I won't be risking it, since I like my immune system the way it is, without exposing it to potential bacterial tree slime infections!
